Mahama Launches New Housing Project for Ghana Armed Forces

President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for a new accommodation project for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), signaling a renewed push to improve the living conditions of military personnel and modernise ageing barracks infrastructure. The sod-cutting ceremony took place on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Burma Camp during activities marking the Armed Forces’ end-of-year West African Social Activities (WASSA) celebrations. The event was held at the forecourt of the GAF Public Relations Department. The housing initiative forms part of a broader regeneration programme aimed at transforming the Burma Camp enclave. According to officials, the project will replace outdated, low-rise residential blocks with modern high-rise apartment complexes. This redesign is expected to free up more than half of the camp’s existing land space, allowing for better planning and improved infrastructure. The first phase of the project is expected to […]

Climate migration in northern Ghana showing dried farmland and urban adaptation

Climate migration in northern Ghana is reshaping culture

In northern Ghana, climate change has quietly but decisively altered the rhythm of life. Rainfall patterns are no longer reliable, dry seasons last longer, and crop yields continue to decline. For many farming families, uncertainty has replaced predictability. In response, migration has become less of a desperate last resort and more of a deliberate adaptation strategy. Rather than severing ties with their communities, families increasingly use migration to diversify livelihoods while maintaining strong connections to their ancestral homes. What is emerging is not a story of cultural loss, but one of continuity and reinvention. For rural households, land is more than an economic asset. It carries memory, kinship, and identity. Farms are sites where history is passed down, where rituals mark seasons, and where belonging is anchored. As climate pressures disrupt these systems, families are pushed to look beyond agriculture […]

Martin Kpebu Backs Forson or Ablakwa as NDC Flagbearer

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu has publicly thrown his support behind a younger generation of leaders to take charge of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after President John Dramani Mahama’s final term. Speaking on JoyPrime TV’s Prime Morning Show on Wednesday, Kpebu said the party must begin a deliberate transition toward youthful leadership, naming Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson and Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa as his preferred choices. “If we are doing wishes, then undoubtedly, Ato Forson should go or Okudzeto. For the young persons, it is our turn generally to take over,” he stated. Kpebu argued that the party’s senior figures have had their opportunity and that the next phase of the NDC’s evolution requires fresh energy, new ideas, and leaders who can connect more directly with a changing electorate. “If old people have tried, it […]

Ghana Constitutional Review Committee Proposes Ban on MPs Becoming Ministers

The Constitutional Review Committee has proposed a significant amendment to Ghana’s 1992 Constitution that would prevent sitting Members of Parliament from being appointed as Ministers of State, Deputy Ministers, or Regional Ministers. Under the proposal, any Member of Parliament who resigns during a parliamentary term would also remain ineligible for ministerial or regional appointments until the end of that term. The restriction would apply only for the duration of the mandate for which the individual was elected. The recommendation was presented to President John Dramani Mahama at Jubilee House on Monday as part of the Committee’s final report. According to the Chairman of the Committee, Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, the amendment seeks to establish a clearer boundary between the legislative and executive arms of government. He explained that the current arrangement blurs institutional roles and weakens accountability. By preventing MPs […]
