Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet key European leaders in the United Kingdom on Friday to discuss renewed military support aimed at deterring future Russian aggression, should a ceasefire end the war that has now entered its fourth year.
The talks, set to take place at the Foreign Office in London, will bring together Zelenskyy, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, and Dutch Prime Minister Dick Schoof. About 20 additional leaders are expected to join virtually as part of the “Coalition of the Willing,” a group of nations that have pledged to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses and long-term resilience.
The agenda includes plans to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, protect the country’s power grid from relentless Russian drone and missile attacks, and potentially supply Kyiv with longer-range weapons capable of striking deeper inside Russian territory. With winter approaching, Ukraine faces another season of rolling power cuts and widespread damage to its energy infrastructure caused by ongoing bombardments.
Moscow has intensified its strikes in recent weeks, hitting both civilian and energy targets across Ukraine. Electricity rationing has already been implemented in several regions, including Kyiv, as authorities struggle to keep the national grid functioning under heavy strain.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has continued to reject international calls for peace talks, insisting that the invasion remains a “legitimate” action. Meanwhile, Western nations have increased their pressure on Moscow through new sanctions targeting Russia’s vital oil and gas revenues.
Friday’s discussions are expected to reinforce collective efforts to sustain Ukraine’s defense and to send a clear message to the Kremlin that the international community remains committed to Kyiv’s sovereignty and long-term security.
