The First Lady of Zamfara State, Hajiya Huriyya Dauda Lawal, has marked the 2025 International Day of Charity with a major outreach to vulnerable groups in the state.
The programme, organised through the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative in collaboration with the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum, took place in Gusau and focused on providing relief to the elderly and the less privileged.
Themed “Speeding Global Generosity and Strengthening Community Support”, the event featured the distribution of bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, sugar, vegetable oil, and cash donations to support households struggling with economic hardship.
Speaking on behalf of the First Lady, Hajiya Hadiza Abubakar (Hadiza Mai H), Senior Special Assistant on Women Mobilisation, stressed that charity goes beyond giving material aid.
“It is about restoring dignity, strengthening community ties, and showing that no one is forgotten. In a world full of challenges, our generosity must move faster to reach those who need it most,” she said.
Hajiya Huriyya reaffirmed her commitment to supporting marginalised groups through consistent, impactful interventions, noting that true charity is rooted in empathy, compassion, and continuity.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, describing it as both timely and reassuring.
The collaboration between the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum and the Huriyya Dauda Lawal Initiative highlights the strength of collective action in uplifting vulnerable populations. The First Lady also commended the Forum’s dedication to expanding humanitarian support across northern Nigeria.
Observed every September 5, the International Day of Charity promotes philanthropy as a tool for reducing poverty, fostering solidarity, and building inclusive communities.
The Zamfara initiative reflects the belief that compassion, when paired with purposeful action, can transform lives and strengthen society.

Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (retd.), has disclosed that he advised former President Olusegun Obasanjo not to contest the 1999 presidential election after Obasanjo's release from detention in 1998.
