WAEC Refutes Minister’s Claim on WASSCE Results Release.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has denied guaranteeing the release of the 2024 WASSCE results by December 29, as earlier stated by the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum.WAEC explained that it is yet to receive sufficient funds to repair broken scanners and complete the processing of results. Three Armed Robbers Jailed 125 Years for Attacking Lotto Company Boss.

Three individuals have been handed a total of 125 years in prison for their roles in an armed robbery attack on Mr. Makafui Atsu Kumordzi, the Director of Makafui and Son’s Limited, a lotto business in Ayitikope, Akatsi South Municipality, Volta Region.The convicted men, Nzete Chukunhru Best, 28, Mark Billy Agbozo (aka Teacher), 31, and Ernest Sokpi Amevor (aka Peace Maker), 32, faced charges of robbery, conspiracy, and abetment. Agbozo and Sokpi Amevor each received 50 years of hard labor, while Chukunhru was sentenced to 25 years.The court, presided over by Judge Felix Datsomor, delivered the verdict on December 23, 2024, after a full trial. Severe Drought Devastates Crops Across Oti Region.

The Oti Region is facing a severe agricultural crisis as a prolonged drought has affected over 58,700 hectares of crops, representing nearly half of the region's cultivated lands. Rising Road Accidents Claim Over 10 Lives in Oti Region.

The Oti Region recorded 41 road crashes between January and September 2024, involving 53 vehicles, including 20 commercial vehicles, 10 private cars, and 23 motorcycles. These incidents resulted in 10 deaths and 78 injuries, a marked increase from the previous year.According to Ms. Theresa Agyeman, Acting Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), speeding and wrongful overtaking, particularly by motorcyclists, were key contributors to the rise in accidents. Motorcycles were involved in 43.4% of crashes, followed by commercial vehicles at 37.74%, and private vehicles at 18.87%.August saw the highest number of crashes with eight, while April and July recorded the highest fatalities, with three deaths each. College of Education Teachers Threaten Strike Over Government’s Unfulfilled Obligations.

The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has announced plans to embark on an indefinite strike starting January 2025 if the government fails to address several long-standing grievances.During an emergency meeting on December 20, CETAG expressed frustration over the government’s failure to honor agreements, including migration of teaching staff to affiliate universities' pay structures and payment of compensation for extra work completed in 2022.Despite multiple engagements with stakeholders, including the Ministry of Education and the National Labour Commission, no resolution has been reached.
