UK police have arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, formerly known as Prince Andrew, on suspicion of misconduct in public office. He was detained by Thames Valley Police as part of an ongoing investigation.
Police said a man in his sixties was arrested in Norfolk and that officers are searching properties in Berkshire and Norfolk. Andrew remains in custody while investigations continue.
The case is linked to allegations that, during his time as a United Kingdom trade envoy, he shared confidential government information with the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Documents released by United States authorities reportedly include trade reports Andrew sent to Epstein about countries he visited on official trips.
Andrew has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and any allegations of sexual misconduct. He was stripped of his royal titles and military patronages last year because of his ties to Epstein and has since stepped back from public duties.
Police have not formally named him in line with United Kingdom guidelines on active cases and have warned the public and media to avoid reporting that could prejudice the investigation. Senior officers say they are under heavy public scrutiny and will provide further updates when appropriate.
United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said Andrew should fully cooperate with investigators and stressed that no one is above the law. Commentators describe the arrest as an unprecedented moment for the modern British monarchy and another major blow to its image.
