United States President Donald Trump says the Washington-brokered ceasefire in Gaza is holding, even as Israeli strikes killed more than 100 Palestinians in a short period, including dozens of children. Gaza’s Ministry of Health reported that about 12 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday, at least 104 Palestinians were killed and 253 wounded. The Palestinian Civil Defence in Gaza condemned the attacks as documented crimes and demanded an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire across the Strip.
One of the strikes hit a tent sheltering displaced people in Deir el-Balah in central Gaza, medical sources told reporters. Other strikes were reported in both the north and the south of the enclave, adding to the civilian toll and prompting urgent appeals from humanitarian groups. Witnesses and health workers described chaotic scenes at hospitals treating the wounded.
On board Air Force One, travelling from Japan to South Korea, Trump defended Israel’s response, citing reports that a 37-year-old Israeli soldier had been killed in southern Gaza. The president said he understood the soldier was apparently killed by sniper fire and argued that Israel was justified in responding, describing such actions as “retribution” for the soldier’s death. He reiterated that the ceasefire should hold but warned that militant groups must behave or face termination.
Hamas denied responsibility for the alleged attack in Rafah and stated it remained committed to the ceasefire agreement. In a separate release, the Israeli military said it had carried out strikes on what it described as dozens of “terror targets,” including some it identified as “command positions.” The military also said it had reinstated ceasefire conditions after the strikes; it did not, however, provide public evidence to corroborate the specific claims of enemy casualties.
The civilian impact prompted renewed calls for diplomacy and restraint. Humanitarian agencies warned that repeated violations and renewed strikes risk unraveling fragile pauses in fighting and deepen the humanitarian crisis for Palestinian civilians already living under severe shortages of food, water, medicine and shelter.
