Trump orders US Navy to destroy boats laying mines in Hormuz

Article arrow_drop_down

President Donald Trump on Thursday ordered the United States Navy to destroy any boats found laying sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, escalating pressure on Iran over control of the vital waterway.

“I have ordered the United States Navy to shoot and kill any boat, small boats though they may be… that is putting mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” Trump wrote in a post cited by U.S. media. He added that there should be “no hesitation” in carrying out the directive.

Trump also said U.S. mine‑sweeping operations were already under way. “Additionally, our mine ‘sweepers’ are clearing the Strait right now,” he stated, underscoring Washington’s determination to keep the strategic chokepoint open to international shipping.

The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Gulf to global markets, is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, previously handling around a fifth of globally traded oil and liquefied natural gas. The order comes amid rising tensions with Iran over naval movements and control of commercial traffic in the area.

Osimhen cleared to face Fenerbahçe in title defining Istanbul derby

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been cleared to play in Sunday’s high stakes Istanbul derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe after concerns over his protective arm brace were dismissed by Turkish football authorities. Osimhen featured in Galatasaray’s midweek defeat to Gençlerbirliği wearing the brace, which he has been using for protection following a recent arm injury. Fenerbahçe subsequently lodged an official complaint with the Turkish Football Federation (TFF), arguing that the gear could pose a danger to opposing players. After reviewing the case, the federation rejected Fenerbahçe’s protest and confirmed that the brace had been medically approved. Officials said all necessary consultations were carried out before Osimhen was authorised to use the support in competitive matches. Fenerbahçe’s unease is understood to be tied to the importance of the derby in the tight Super Lig title race. Galatasaray currently hold a […]

Mexico: US agents lacked approval for operation

The Mexico has said that two US agents who died in a car crash last weekend were not authorised to carry out operations on its territory. According to officials, the agents—reported to be linked to the CIA—had taken part in a raid targeting suspected drug laboratories in the northern state of Chihuahua. Their vehicle later veered off a mountain road and exploded. Following an investigation ordered by President Claudia Sheinbaum, Mexico’s security ministry stated that neither agent had formal accreditation to participate in operational activities. It also confirmed that federal authorities had not been informed of their presence. Immigration records showed that one of the agents entered the country as a visitor, while the other travelled on a diplomatic passport. Mexican law prohibits foreign agents from engaging in operations without prior government approval. The crash, which occurred on 19 April, […]
