United States President Donald Trump says he has ordered a pause on planned military strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure following what he described as very good and productive talks with Tehran. He announced the move in a post on his Truth Social platform on Monday.
Trump said the United States and Iran had, over the previous two days, held conversations aimed at achieving a complete and total resolution of their hostilities in the Middle East. He noted that the tone of the discussions was encouraging and that negotiations would continue throughout the week.
On the basis of those talks, Trump explained that he instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all strikes on Iranian power plants and energy facilities for five days. He stressed that the pause is conditional and remains subject to the success of the ongoing meetings with Iranian representatives.
The announcement marks a shift from Trump’s earlier threat to hit Iranian energy targets in response to rising tensions. The five day window is expected to serve as a test of diplomatic efforts to ease hostilities and explore a broader political settlement between Washington and Tehran.
However, Iran has publicly denied holding such talks with the United States, contradicting Trump’s claim of very good negotiations. The conflicting statements have raised questions among observers about the exact nature and level of any contacts between the two countries.
