More than 400 pupils and teachers at Nana Avoh Nwiah Basic School in the Jomoro Municipality had for years been forced to teach and learn in a deteriorating wooden structure widely described by residents as a death trap. The unsafe building discouraged attendance and affected enrolment, as some parents feared for their children’s safety. Inside, there were no proper desks. Pupils sat on backless benches placed on dusty, uncemented floors. When heavy rains fell, teachers often shut the school because of the leaking, tattered roof. Mahama Breaks Ground for New Float Glass Factory in Shama

President John Dramani Mahama has cut sod for the construction of a new glass manufacturing facility at Shama in the Western Region, describing the project as a significant boost to Ghana’s industrialisation drive. The facility, known as the New Float Glass Manufacturing Company, is being developed by KEDA (Ghana) Ceramics Company Limited. Expansion of production capacity At the ceremony, the President also inaugurated the fifth phase of the company’s tile production line and commissioned a modern sanitary ware factory, expanding the company’s manufacturing footprint in the country. Once completed and operational, the float glass plant is expected to produce about 1,400 tonnes of glass per day. The operation, conducted after credible intelligence was received from an informant, led to the arrest of three Chinese galamsey operators, the seizure of a pump action shotgun with four cartridges, and the impounding of two excavators used in destructive mining along the Ankobrah River. National Security operatives in Ghana's Western Region have uncovered stolen Electrical Company of Ghana (ECG) equipment in two locations in the Kansaworado area, a suburb of Sekondi-Takoradi.
