Rabies Cases Surge in Western and Greater Accra Regions: 793 Cases and 77 Deaths in Three Years.
The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), alongside Ghana's Accelerating Social and Behavior Change (ASBC) programme and other animal health stakeholders, has raised concerns about the rising cases of rabies in Ghana, particularly in the Western and Greater Accra regions.At a press event for World Rabies Day 2024, the ASBC noted that dog bites and rabies cases are on the rise, with dogs being the main carriers of the virus. In 2023 alone, 331 suspected cases of rabies were recorded, with Greater Accra leading at 112 cases, followed by the Western Region with 102 cases, accounting for 64.65% of the total. Meanwhile, Bono, Oti, and Western North regions reported no cases.
