Gunmen Ambush Cattle Traders on Bolgatanga-Tamale Highway, One Injured.

On Tuesday, December 3, 2024, a group of cattle traders traveling along the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway near Walewale fell victim to an ambush by gunmen. The attack left one person injured and resulted in the theft of 27 cattle.Aziz Agbang, the injured victim, sustained a gunshot wound to the back and is currently receiving treatment at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).The traders were returning to Zebilla in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region after purchasing livestock from the Buipe Market in the Savannah Region when the ambush occurred.Though the motive remains unclear, local residents suspect that the attack may be linked to the ongoing Bawku conflict, which has fueled armed violence along the North East-Upper East Regional corridor.The Bolgatanga-Tamale highway, particularly the Walewale section, has become notorious for such attacks, largely due to the prolonged unrest in Bawku.
