Bono Region Launches Campaign to Prevent Rabies in Schools.

Following the tragic death of a 16-year-old boy bitten by a stray dog in the Jaman North District, educational authorities in the Bono Region have initiated a widespread rabies prevention campaign. The boy's passing, attributed to a lack of knowledge about proper dog bite management, prompted the Ghana Education Service (GES) and Veterinary Services Department to team up with local schools. This initiative will train 542 teachers and coordinators to educate students, teachers, and parents in 225 basic schools on rabies prevention.

Seven Rabies Deaths Recorded in Upper East Region Amid Calls for Increased Pet Vaccination.

Seven people in the Upper East Region have died from rabies this year, out of nine suspected cases, according to local health authorities. These figures were revealed during the World Rabies Day event in Bolgatanga, themed “Breaking Rabies Boundaries.”Collins Yin, a Health Promotion Officer, noted that the Bolgatanga Municipal recorded three suspected cases, resulting in one death. In Bongo District, all three suspected cases were fatal, and Garu District also saw two suspected rabies cases, both leading to deaths. Nabdam District recorded one case, which also ended in the victim’s death.Yin urged the public to vaccinate their pets, especially dogs, to prevent future rabies deaths, emphasizing that vaccination could prevent these fatalities.
