Trump halts US green card lottery over security fears

The Trump administration has suspended the United States Diversity Immigrant Visa Programme, widely known as the green card lottery, citing security concerns after recent deadly shootings. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that, on President Donald Trump’s directive, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services has been ordered to pause the programme.​ The Diversity Visa scheme offers up to about 50,000 permanent resident visas each year to people from countries with historically low levels of immigration to the US, many of them in Africa. Les autorités américaines ont annoncé un durcissement immédiat de l’examen des demandes d’immigration concernant les ressortissants de 19 pays jugés « à haut risque », parmi lesquels figure le Togo. L’information a été rendue publique le mardi 2 décembre 2025 par l’U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), qui a ordonné la suspension temporaire des demandes d’asile en cours et de certaines requêtes de résidence. USA : Suspension des demandes d’asile des Togolais

Les ressortissants togolais vivant aux États-Unis ou engagés dans une procédure d’immigration sont touchés par une nouvelle mesure prise par l’administration américaine. L’USCIS, l’agence fédérale chargée des services d’immigration, a annoncé mardi la suspension immédiate de toutes les demandes d’asile en cours, ainsi que de plusieurs demandes de titres de séjour, pour les citoyens issus de 19 pays considérés comme “à haut risque”, dont le Togo. D’après la note interne publiée par l’USCIS, chaque dossier fera désormais l’objet d’une réévaluation complète. US Moves to Shorten Visa Duration for Students, Journalists

The United States government has announced plans to reduce the validity period of visas for international students and foreign journalists, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Under the proposed rule, F visas—issued to foreign students—would be limited to a maximum of four years, regardless of the length of their academic programs. Currently, students are granted visas that cover the full duration of their studies, which can exceed five years for doctoral degrees. For foreign journalists, visa validity would be restricted to 240 days, with the possibility of one extension for another 240 days.
