Netherlands Donates Mechanized Boreholes to Upper West Region Communities.

As part of the Healthy Future for All (HF4A) project, the Netherlands Development Organization (SNV) has constructed and handed over nine solar-powered mechanized water systems to communities in the Nandom Municipal and Lambussie District of the Upper West Region. These systems aim to enhance water supply, sanitation, and hygiene, providing up to 2,220 gallons of potable water daily. Each water system includes a borehole, a 10,000-litre tank elevated on a reinforced concrete platform, a distribution network, and solar power generators. The newly commissioned facilities were connected to local health centers and schools, including the Piina, Naawie, and Naapaal Health Centres, and the Karni Basic School. Upper West Region Leads in NHIS Population Coverage.

The Upper West Region has emerged as the top performer in National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) coverage for 2023, according to Mr. Samuel Lobber Lekamwe, the Acting Regional Director of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA). With 772,941 individuals covered, representing 81.9% of the region's estimated population of 943,448, it surpassed the 81% coverage recorded in 2022.During the NHIA's 2023 performance review in Wa, Mr. Lekamwe highlighted that the region also achieved 90.3% of its target membership for the year. This success further solidified the Upper West Region's leadership in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) across the country.
