School Proprietor Arrested for Blocking BECE Maths Exam Over Unpaid Fees
On June 16, 2025, during the Mathematics paper of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), the proprietor of Big Six Educational Complex in Meduma, Mr. Afoakwa Sarpong, reportedly confined two junior high school students in a room, barring them from taking the exam due to unpaid registration fees. He was arrested on June 17 by the Kwabre East Municipal Education Director and police, and formally taken into custody by the Mamponteng District Command. Legal Implications Police are investigating Mr. Sarpong under charges of assault by imprisonment, a serious offence under Ghanaian law.
