Gaza universities reopen after two years of war, reviving hope for students

After two years of war that devastated the Gaza Strip, universities are slowly reopening and offering students a fragile but vital path back to education. NELFUND Reaches One Million Student Loan Applications

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that its student loan programme has reached over one million applications on its official portal, marking a major milestone for a government-backed social initiative under the Tinubu administration. In a statement released on Sunday by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, the fund said the achievement came less than a year after the programme’s official launch on May 24, 2024. It described the milestone as clear evidence of growing national trust and confidence in the student loan scheme. According to NELFUND, more than ₦116 billion has been disbursed so far to students in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country. NUC begins nationwide recruitment, opens application portal

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has launched a nationwide recruitment drive to fill vacancies at its headquarters in Abuja. In a notice issued on Friday, the Commission invited qualified Nigerians to apply for positions across its officer cadre, confidential secretary roles, and clerical or auxiliary staff categories. “The recruitment exercise is open to all eligible Nigerians who meet the advertised requirements. Applications are free of charge and must be submitted through the official careers portal,” the NUC stated. Applicants are to visit careers.nuc.edu.ng or nuc.edu.ng for detailed guidelines. Submissions must be completed within six weeks of the announcement, and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for further screening.
