Trump warns of more US strikes if ISIS keeps killing Christians in Nigeria

United States President Donald Trump has warned that more American military attacks will follow if Islamic State terrorists continue killing Christians in Nigeria. He said the United States will keep targeting ISIS militants if they do not stop the violence. Trump issued the warning in a post on his Truth Social account after confirming that US forces had already carried out deadly airstrikes on ISIS positions in northwest Nigeria. He said the militants had been targeting and brutally killing mainly innocent Christians at levels he described as not seen for many years or even centuries. The president explained that he had previously cautioned the terrorists that there would be severe consequences if they continued the killings. He added that the recent US strikes were those consequences and stressed that more attacks would come if the murders of Christians persist. Trump […]

Trump says US carried out deadly strikes on IS in Nigeria

President Donald Trump has announced that United States forces carried out deadly strikes against Islamic State fighters in northwestern Nigeria. He said the operation targeted militants he accused of attacking and killing Christians in the region. Trump made the statement in a post on his Truth Social platform on Christmas night. He described the militants as “terrorists” and “ISIS scum” and said they had been warned to stop the killing of Christians. He wrote that the United States had launched “numerous” or “powerful and deadly” strikes on Islamic State positions in northwest Nigeria. Trump also praised US forces and referred to the strikes as “perfect,” saying there would be more attacks if the killings continued. US Africa Command later confirmed that American forces conducted airstrikes in northwest Nigeria. It said the operation was carried out at the request of Nigerian […]

China says US is trying to block closer India ties

China has accused the United States of twisting its defence policy in an effort to block closer ties between Beijing and New Delhi. Foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian made the remarks in Beijing while reacting to a U.S. Pentagon report on China’s approach to India. The report suggested China may seek to use easing border tensions with India to curb the growth of U.S.–India relations. Lin said China views its relationship with India from a long term and strategic perspective. He added that the border issue is strictly a matter between the two neighbours. He said China opposes any outside country commenting on or interfering in the border dispute. Lin also rejected what he called U.S. attempts to misrepresent China’s defence policy.

Venezuela Tells UN US Has Continental Ambitions

Venezuela has accused the United States of pursuing a broader strategy aimed at asserting dominance across Latin America, warning the United Nations Security Council that Washington’s actions go far beyond its dispute with Caracas. Speaking before the 15-member council, Venezuela’s ambassador to the UN, Samuel Moncada, said the pressure campaign against President Nicolás Maduro’s government reflects what he described as “continental ambitions” outlined in US strategic thinking. According to Moncada, Venezuela is being used as an initial target in a wider plan designed to fragment the region and weaken governments one by one. He cited the US National Security Strategy, arguing that it openly frames the future of the Americas as falling under US influence. The remarks came after Venezuela requested an emergency Security Council meeting to address what it calls ongoing US aggression, including air strikes launched in September […]

Iran insists missile programme is defensive

Iran has declared that its missile programme is strictly defensive and will not be discussed in any negotiations with foreign governments. Foreign ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said the country’s missiles were built to protect Iran’s territory and sovereignty, not to threaten others. Baghaei dismissed calls from Western countries to place limits on Iran’s missile activities, insisting that the issue lies entirely within Iran’s national security domain. He argued that critics use the missile programme as a political tool to pressure Tehran while ignoring the large volumes of weapons supplied to Israel and other regional allies. The spokesman said Iran’s missile capabilities are designed to deter attacks and form a key part of the country’s overall defence strategy. He stressed that these defensive assets are “by no means subject to negotiation” and that Iran will decide for itself how to maintain […]

US Nigeria sign 2.1bn health deal

The United States and Nigeria have signed a landmark agreement worth about 2.1 billion dollars to strengthen health security, expand primary healthcare, and support long term self reliance in Nigeria’s health system. The deal is framed as a technical memorandum of understanding that deepens bilateral health cooperation and aims to build a more resilient system for all Nigerians. Under the agreement, both countries will work together to improve early detection, prevention, and control of infectious diseases, including HIV and tuberculosis. The partnership also covers stronger disease surveillance, faster outbreak response, and better support for frontline health workers across the country. The pact includes plans to upgrade laboratory systems and biosafety procedures for collecting, transporting, testing, storing, and disposing of pathogen samples. It will also help strengthen health data systems and ensure more reliable access to essential medicines and other health […]

US strikes major ISIL targets in Syria

President Donald Trump says the United States has launched large-scale strikes on ISIL targets in Syria, one week after an attack in Palmyra killed two US soldiers and a civilian interpreter. He said he ordered the operation to punish those responsible and described it as a precise and very successful mission. Trump explained in a speech in North Carolina and in posts on Truth Social that the aim was to send a clear message that attacks on US personnel would bring strong retaliation. He said US forces hit every intended location and claimed the operation would help restore peace through strength. The strikes targeted ISIL fighters, facilities, and weapons depots across central and northeastern Syria under an operation called Hawkeye Strike. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the action was a declaration of vengeance rather than the start of a […]

Deportation fears push undocumented US parents to assign guardians for their kids

A growing number of undocumented migrants in the United States are formally granting legal guardianship of their children to trusted allies, as fears of detention and deportation intensify. The arrangements are meant to ensure that children are not left abandoned or forced into foster care if their parents are suddenly removed from the country. Under these agreements, parents sign documents giving another adult power of attorney to act on their behalf in schools, hospitals and courts, while still retaining parental custody rights. Lawyers and advocacy groups say interest in guardianship and emergency planning has grown sharply as immigration enforcement has tightened and legal migration options have narrowed. One 32 year old Guatemalan mother in Miami said she decided to appoint a legal guardian because she fears never returning home from work one day if she is detained by immigration officers. Israeli airstrikes hit targets across Lebanon

Israel has launched a new wave of strikes on southern and eastern Lebanon, hitting several locations that the Israeli military says are linked to Hezbollah. Lebanon’s state run National News Agency reported multiple strikes on mountainous areas in both regions. The Israeli military said its forces targeted what it described as “terror infrastructure sites” in different parts of Lebanon. It said the targets included “a military compound used by Hezbollah to conduct training and courses” for members of the Iran backed group. In a separate statement, the army said its forces “a short while ago” struck a Hezbollah fighter in the Taybeh area of southern Lebanon. No details were given about casualties from that strike or the wider series of attacks. The latest strikes come despite a ceasefire agreement reached in November 2024 that was meant to end more than […]

Venezuela slams Trump’s ‘total blockade’ threat

Venezuela has condemned US President Donald Trump’s order for a “total and complete” blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers heading to the country, calling it a “warmongering” threat and a grave danger to peace in South America. The move is part of Washington’s effort to increase pressure on President Nicolas Maduro’s government. The escalation follows the recent seizure of an oil tanker off Venezuela’s coast and a significant build-up of US military forces in the region. In a post on Truth Social, Trump accused Venezuela of using oil revenue to fund drug trafficking and other crimes and vowed to expand the military presence until Caracas hands over oil, land and other assets he claims were “stolen” from the United States. Trump wrote that Venezuela is “completely surrounded by the largest Armada ever assembled in the History of South America” and […]
