Refugees return home as Nigeria–Cameroon repatriation pact kicks in
A tripartite agreement between the Federal Government, Cameroon, Borno State and the UNHCR for the voluntary return of Nigerian refugees from Cameroon has begun yielding results, with displaced citizens now going back home. The deal covers Nigerians who fled Boko Haram and ISWAP attacks and have been living for years in camps such as Minawao in Cameroon. Former Senate Leader Ali Ndume commended President Bola Tinubu and the Borno State Government for fully activating the Yaoundé agreement signed in 2017. He said the accord is enabling the safe repatriation, resettlement and relocation of refugees back to communities like Gwoza Local Government Area.
