Kano assembly by elections peaceful but record low turnout
The Kano State House of Assembly by elections held on Saturday were largely peaceful but recorded very low voter turnout in many polling units. The exercise took place in Kano Municipal and Ungogo local government areas to fill two vacant seats in the state assembly. Observers and journalists reported that Independent National Electoral Commission officials arrived early with voting materials and set up at most polling stations. However, only a small number of voters turned up, leaving many polling units almost empty for several hours. Security agencies deployed personnel across the affected areas, and there were no major incidents of violence or disruption.
