Kumasi Road Fatalities Drop by 37%, High-Risk Areas Identified in New Report.
The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has reported a 37% decline in road fatalities for 2023, attributed to sustained safety campaigns and enforcement. The 2023 Kumasi Road Safety Report revealed 83 fatalities, with 61% due to pedestrian knockdowns and 25% involving motorcycles.High-risk periods were identified between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at key locations such as Anloga Junction, Silicon Hotel Junction, and Sofoline Station. Major accident-prone corridors include the Asafo Interchange-Tech Junction route and the Sunyani Corridor.The report coincides with the 2024 World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. Authorities are urging road users to prioritize safety, especially during the festive season. "The Drive Safe campaign challenge should be a priority to everyone," said Akwasi Agyenim Boateng, Ashanti Regional Director of the National Road Safety Authority.
