Protest rocks Ijebu Ode over alleged plot to impose new Awujale
Indigenes and residents of Ijebu Ode on Friday morning staged a protest over an alleged plot by powerful interests to impose a candidate as the next Awujale of Ijebuland. The demonstrators converged at the Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona Archway leading to the palace and marched towards the Ijebu Ode Local Government Headquarters at Itoro to register their grievances. The protest followed a circular issued on January 20, 2026 by the Ogun State Government directing the kingmakers to stop further action on the ongoing selection process. The circular halted moves to pick a candidate from the 95 nominees earlier submitted by leaders of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, including Otunba Lateef Owoyemi (Olori Ebi), Prince Adedokun Ajidagba (Deputy Olori Ebi) and Professor Fassy Yusuf (Vice Chairman).
