Germany targets deeper trade, investment ties with Nigeria

Germany has signalled plans to deepen economic ties with Nigeria, focusing on sectors such as wine, pharmaceuticals, renewable energy, machinery and construction.​ Dr Joe Weingarten, Head of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Agriculture and Viniculture in Rhineland Palatinate, said the German state already records more than €1.5 billion in trade with Nigeria, making the country one of its top African partners after Egypt, Nigeria and South Africa. He led an eight company business delegation to Lagos on what he described as the state’s first trade mission to West Africa.​ Weingarten said the visit is focused on direct company to company meetings with chambers of commerce and firms in Lagos, aimed at moving beyond viewing Nigeria only as a sales market.
