Nigeria Respected Again, Economy Stable — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has declared that Nigeria’s economy is stabilising under his administration, insisting that the country is now “respected again” after years of neglect, corruption, and revenue leakages. The President made the remarks on Tuesday at the State House, Abuja, while receiving the Soun of Ogbomosho, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Laoye, Orumoge III, alongside ministers and senior government officials. Tinubu said his government’s tough but necessary decisions since May 2023 had ended the “bleeding” of public funds and restored discipline to the economy. “Thank you for recognising the bold steps we took from Day One. We know it was painful at first, but reforms are already making the economy stronger,” Tinubu said. He explained that years of fake financial records, smuggling, and corruption in the currency market had weakened the country, but recent reforms were reversing the trend. Highlighting progress, […]

PDP Chieftain Rejects Zoning, Calls for Merit in 2027

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has opposed the party’s zoning plan for the 2027 presidential ticket, arguing that competence should take priority over regional rotation. Speaking on Arise Television’s The Morning Show on Thursday, Olawepo-Hashim said zoning encourages division instead of unity, stressing that leadership ability is not tied to any part of the country. “Let’s focus on what unites us, not what divides us. Nigeria does not need zoning to produce a competent president. A capable leader can come from anywhere,” he stated. He cited historical examples, noting that former President Olusegun Obasanjo won the PDP ticket in 1999 through an open contest, unlike former President Goodluck Jonathan, who benefited from zoning but later lost re-election. According to Olawepo-Hashim, insisting on zoning could weaken the PDP against the ruling All Progressives Congress […]

In a condolence statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President described Mama Lydia as “a virtuous woman who lived a life of faith, service, and commitment to her community.” He urged Prof. Yilwatda to take comfort in the legacy his late mother left behind, noting that her passing should be accepted as the will of God.
