ISWAP second in command killed as military steps up Sambisa offensive

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have killed Abu Khalid, the reported second in command of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), during a major night offensive in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno State.​ The operation, launched around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Komala general area of Konduga Local Government Area, also resulted in the elimination of at least 10 other fighters linked to the terror group. Troops repel terrorist drone strikes, maintain battlefield edge

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have repelled terrorist drone attacks during operations along the Timbuktu Triangle in Borno State, maintaining control of the area. The operations were carried out on Sunday, January 18, with close support from the Nigerian Air Force.​ Operation Hadin Kai spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba said troops advanced from their harbour and conducted intelligence led raids on terrorist enclaves in Chilaria, Garin Faruk and Abirma. The air component provided sustained intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance over the axis.​ He explained that the strong air to ground coordination allowed real time tracking of terrorist movements and discouraged enemy reinforcement. NAF airstrikes hit terrorists at Abbagajiri as ground troops move into Timbuktu Triangle

The Nigerian Air Force has carried out fresh precision airstrikes on terrorist hideouts at Abbagajiri in the notorious Timbuktu Triangle area of Borno State. The operation was conducted under Operation Hadin Kai as part of wider joint efforts to weaken insurgent networks in the North East.​ According to military sources, the strikes followed reliable multi source intelligence that confirmed active terrorist presence, fortified structures and hidden logistics hubs in the area.
