Japan Seizes Chinese Fishing Vessel
Japan has detained a Chinese fishing vessel after it allegedly ignored orders to stop for inspection in waters off the country’s southwest coast, a development that could heighten already strained relations between Tokyo and Beijing. According to Japan’s fisheries authorities, the boat was operating within Japan’s exclusive economic zone near Nagasaki Prefecture when inspectors attempted to carry out a routine check on Thursday. Officials said the captain refused to comply and attempted to leave the area, prompting enforcement action. The vessel was subsequently seized, and its captain — a 47-year-old Chinese national — was taken into custody. In total, 11 crew members were reported to be on board at the time of the incident.
