China Warns Citizens to Stay Away from Japan Amid Diplomatic Tensions

China has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid Japan after a diplomatic row flared over Tokyo’s recent comments regarding Taiwan. The dispute began when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi told parliament that military action against Taiwan—a self-ruled island claimed by China—could prompt a Japanese response. China responded by summoning Japan’s ambassador and later warning Chinese nationals of “significant risks to personal safety” in Japan through its embassy’s official WeChat channel. Beijing criticized the “provocative remarks regarding Taiwan” and noted the damage to the atmosphere of people-to-people exchanges.
