NELFUND Reaches One Million Student Loan Applications
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has announced that its student loan programme has reached over one million applications on its official portal, marking a major milestone for a government-backed social initiative under the Tinubu administration. In a statement released on Sunday by Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, Director of Strategic Communications at NELFUND, the fund said the achievement came less than a year after the programme’s official launch on May 24, 2024. It described the milestone as clear evidence of growing national trust and confidence in the student loan scheme. According to NELFUND, more than ₦116 billion has been disbursed so far to students in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education across the country. The funds cover tuition fees and upkeep allowances for eligible beneficiaries.
