Olumide Oworu faults public outrage over petty theft, silence on grand corruption
Actor and politician Olumide Oworu has criticised the way Nigerians react strongly to petty theft while often remaining silent about large scale corruption by public officials. He said viral videos of minor thefts in markets or on the streets usually attract quick anger and mob justice, yet cases involving billions of naira allegedly stolen from public funds do not provoke the same level of outrage. Oworu argued that this double standard helps powerful people get away with looting, because ordinary citizens are conditioned to focus on small offenders while treating high level cases as normal or untouchable.
