North Korea’s Kim Jong Un rejigs private security detail
North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has replaced three senior officials in charge of his personal security, according to South Korea’s intelligence services. Analysts see the reshuffle as a sign he is tightening control over those closest to him amid concerns about loyalty and assassination threats. The officials served in elite units tasked with guarding Kim’s residence, convoy and public appearances. They have reportedly been reassigned and replaced by officers with long service records in the Guard Department and State Affairs Commission, which oversee the leader’s protection.
