Sports Minister Forms Committee to Investigate Death of Nigerian Boxer
In response to the tragic death of Nigerian boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju, who collapsed during a bout at the Trust Sports Emporium Boxing Arena in Bukom and passed away at the Korle-Bu Hospital in February 2025, Ghana's Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has established a seven-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.The committee, chaired by Major Retired Amarkai Amarteifio, includes former Ghana Boxing Authority President Peter Zwennes, sports journalists Ekow Ansah and Samuel Bartels, as well as other experts. The committee will examine various aspects of the match and the safety protocols surrounding it, with a focus on determining whether the organizers took adequate steps to prevent the death according to international standards.
