CAS Upholds UEFA Ruling, Sends Crystal Palace to Conference League
Crystal Palace will compete in the UEFA Conference League this season after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) upheld UEFA’s decision to demote the club over breaches of multi-club ownership rules. In its ruling on Monday, CAS confirmed that Palace’s Europa League spot will instead go to Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest. The case centred on Eagle Football Holdings founder John Textor, who CAS found held shares and board positions in both Crystal Palace and Olympique Lyonnais (OL) at the time of UEFA’s eligibility assessment. OL have also qualified for the Europa League. Palace earned their place in the competition by winning the FA Cup in May but were ruled ineligible on July 11.
