UK Councillor Resigns Over Post on Charlie Kirk’s Assassination
A councillor in Lancashire has stepped down after sparking outrage with a social media post about the assassination of US conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Fiona Wild, who represented Lanehead ward as an independent on Burnley Council, resigned on Thursday after writing that Kirk’s killing was “good riddance” and that he had “brought this on himself.” The post, which has since been deleted, described the 31-year-old conservative media figure as “not… a very nice man.” Kirk, a close ally of former US president Donald Trump and founder of Turning Point USA, was shot dead on Wednesday at Utah Valley University.
