95 princes, princesses show interest in Awujale stool
At least 95 princes and princesses have formally indicated interest in becoming the next Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebuland. The stool became vacant following the death of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July 2025 after about 65 years on the throne. The Fusengbuwa ruling house, which is next in line to produce the new Awujale, has begun the internal process of screening and shortlisting interested members. Family leaders have invited Ogun State government officials and the Ijebu-Ode Local Government to observe the nomination meeting in line with the law. Sources within the ruling house say the high number of aspirants reflects the prestige and influence of the Awujale stool in Ijebuland and Ogun State.
