IGP Disu inaugurates committee on state policing
Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu has inaugurated an eight member committee to drive the implementation of state policing in Nigeria. The committee, made up of senior security experts and top police officers, is expected to develop a practical roadmap for setting up state police structures across the country in line with ongoing security reforms. Disu said the move follows the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to decentralised policing, which is aimed at improving response to crime and strengthening community level security. He explained that state policing, when fully implemented, will allow state and local authorities to play a more active role in maintaining law and order, while the Nigeria Police Force provides national coordination and standards.
