Dorcas Affo-Toffey Builds New Classroom Block for Jomoro School

More than 400 pupils and teachers at Nana Avoh Nwiah Basic School in the Jomoro Municipality had for years been forced to teach and learn in a deteriorating wooden structure widely described by residents as a death trap. The unsafe building discouraged attendance and affected enrolment, as some parents feared for their children’s safety. Inside, there were no proper desks. Pupils sat on backless benches placed on dusty, uncemented floors. When heavy rains fell, teachers often shut the school because of the leaking, tattered roof. On days it remained open, more than 400 pupils were squeezed into a single classroom considered slightly safer than the rest of the structure. The open design of the building created constant danger. Teachers recalled an incident where a snake fell from the roof into a classroom during lessons. The situation was worsened by poor […]

Just in: Panic as Lagos public school building collapses in Ikorodu

Residents of the Odo‑Kekere community in Ikorodu, Lagos State, were thrown into panic when a section of a public secondary school building suddenly collapsed on Thursday evening. The affected structure, located within Odokekere High School and owned by the Lagos State Government, reportedly gave way with a loud crash that drew people from the neighbourhood to the scene. Authorities and school sources confirmed that no casualties were recorded in the incident, as students had closed for the day before the section of the building caved in. Officials from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and the Lagos State Building Control Agency later cordoned off the premises to prevent access pending further safety checks. In a preliminary reaction, the Lagos State Government disclosed that the classroom block had earlier been marked for demolition as part of plans to build a new […]

The Obuasi Municipal Assembly (OMA) has begun the construction of a 24-unit ultra-modern classroom block aimed at improving education infrastructure and reducing classroom congestion within the municipality. The Obuasi Municipal Education Directorate officially cut sod for the project in the Ashanti Region, marking a major step toward addressing the growing infrastructure challenges in local schools. He said the new building will include an ICT centre, sick bay, computer laboratory, and canteen, among other modern amenities designed to promote effective teaching and learning. “This project is timely and crucial. It will ensure that every child has access to a conducive learning environment,” Adjei stated. The GH₵20 million […]

Aggrey Memorial School Urges for Urgent Infrastructure to Address Student Congestion

Students of Aggrey Memorial A.M.E. Zion School have raised alarms about severe overcrowding in their dormitories, urging for immediate infrastructural improvements to ease the situation. The Girls’ Prefect, Maame Doku Blay, highlighted that many students have been forced to sleep in the corridors, which not only exposes them to security risks but also increases the likelihood of contracting communicable diseases. In a call for action, Blay stressed the need for additional dormitory blocks and enhanced water facilities, such as more boreholes and water storage tanks, to combat frequent water shortages. The school's 85th anniversary, held last Saturday, served as a platform to address these issues. The event, themed “Building on 85 Years of Quality Education: The Role of Stakeholders,” was attended by government officials, alumni, and well-wishers. During the ceremony, Headmistress Dorothy Adentwi-Hayford reiterated the urgent need for better infrastructure to support […]

Residents of Western Region Demand Completion of Abandoned School Projects.

Residents of the Western Region, particularly in the Shama District, are raising concerns over the increasing number of abandoned infrastructure projects, especially in the education sector. Opinion leaders are calling on authorities to prioritize the completion of stalled school projects, as these delays negatively impact teaching and learning. One example is the Ohiamadwen D/A Primary, where a teachers' bungalow started under the NDC government in 2015 was abandoned following their loss in the 2016 elections. Another is a three-unit classroom block for Assorko Junior High School, initiated by former MP Ato Panford and the Shama District Assembly in 2019. This project was left unfinished when Ato Panford lost the NPP primaries that same year. Additionally, a polyclinic intended to serve over 68,000 people has been stuck at 85% completion since 2004. In the community of Asmoro Essaman, which has grown […]
