Gov’t to Set Up Resettlement Camp for Gbiniyiri Victims

The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP), in collaboration with key stakeholders, has announced plans to set up a resettlement camp for displaced residents of Gbiniyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region. The camp will provide food, water, and care for affected families while the government works to restore peace and stability in the conflict-hit area. Recent communal clashes over land ownership in Gbiniyiri claimed several lives and left more than a dozen people injured. Many residents—mostly women and children—have been displaced, with homes and properties destroyed. NAIMOS Intensifies Crackdown on Illegal Mining in Bole/Bamboi

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operation Secretariat (NAIMOS) Task Force is ramping up its crackdown on illegal mining (galamsey) in the Bole/Bamboi area, seizing heavy machinery and arresting suspects, including foreigners, as part of the government’s strategy to preserve natural resources and protect local communities. What We Found On July 25, 2025, NAIMOS revisited a previously reported galamsey site, arresting 11 Chinese nationals and seizing heavy-duty equipment including four Shacman tipper trucks (GT 7048-25; GT 7035-25; GT 7265-25; GT 7243-25), a bulldozer (GT 5321-25), a low-bed trailer (GT 1128-21), a Forland small truck, 10 drums of engine oil, 28 Richlion tyres, and multiple motorbikes. The confiscated items were transported to NAIMOS headquarters in Accra, where they remain pending further investigation.
