Kano begins Ramadan health inspections in all LGAs

The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board has begun preparations for a special Ramadan health inspection across all 44 local government areas to promote hygiene and public health during the holy month.​ Director General of the board, Prof Salisu Ahmed Ibrahim, disclosed this at a strategic coordination meeting with local government health educators and ward environmental health officers in Kano. Greater Accra MMDCEs urge government to boost sanitation funding

The Dean of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) in the Greater Accra Region, John Desmond Sowah, has appealed to government to increase budgetary allocation for sanitation to sustain a clean environment and improve waste management, particularly in the capital region. He made the call during the handover of cleaning tools and equipment to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the Greater Accra Region by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs. ISSER Urges Government to Treat Waste Management as an Economic Growth Strategy

Experts from the University of Ghana’s Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) are calling on government to redefine waste management as an engine for economic growth, rather than treating it solely as a public health challenge. In a new policy paper titled “The High Cost of Improper Waste Management and Poor Sanitation on Ghana’s Economy,” the ISSER team argues that effective sanitation systems could generate billions in economic value, create new employment opportunities, and improve environmental outcomes. Oti Region Prosecutes 100 for Sanitation Offenses Amid Typhoid Surge

More than 100 people have been prosecuted in the Krachi East municipality of the Oti Region for flouting sanitation by-laws. The Oti Regional Environmental and Sanitation Taskforce brought the offenders before the Dambai District Magistrate Court on charges ranging from indiscriminate dumping of refuse to poor sanitation practices and open defecation. The crackdown follows a surge in typhoid fever cases in the region, with over 23,000 infections recorded in the first half of 2025, largely traced to poor hygiene and unsafe water sources. Regional Environmental Health Prosecutor Patrick K. Gbafa said the prosecutions are intended to protect public health, not merely punish. Cholera Outbreak in Western Region Claims 14 Lives, Over 800 Cases Reported.

A cholera outbreak in Ghana's Western Region has claimed 14 lives and led to over 800 suspected cases, as hospitals struggle to cope with overcrowding and limited resources. Reports indicate that daily new infections exceed 60, with both public and private health facilities receiving 15–20 cases daily.The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has deployed a team to monitor the outbreak and enhance emergency healthcare support. Hospitals have converted waiting areas into treatment spaces, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
