At least 19 people died on Saturday when a commercial bus carrying a bride and her wedding guests plunged into a river while attempting to cross a collapsed bridge between Gwalli village and Gummi town in Zamfara State. Rising Road Accidents Claim Over 10 Lives in Oti Region.

The Oti Region recorded 41 road crashes between January and September 2024, involving 53 vehicles, including 20 commercial vehicles, 10 private cars, and 23 motorcycles. These incidents resulted in 10 deaths and 78 injuries, a marked increase from the previous year.According to Ms. Theresa Agyeman, Acting Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), speeding and wrongful overtaking, particularly by motorcyclists, were key contributors to the rise in accidents. The boy, the son of Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako, founder of Alive Chapel International, was driving his mother’s Jaguar F-Pace Sport without a license when he lost control during a convoy of friends. The crash resulted in a violent collision with another vehicle, which led to a fire. The boy, who initially denied the charges, later pleaded guilty to manslaughter, dangerous driving, and more.
