22 year old held for faking own kidnap to collect N1.5m ransom

Police detectives in Ondo State have arrested a 22 year old truck driver and two friends for allegedly staging his own kidnapping to extort N1.5 million from his family. The suspect, identified as Tobi Oluwatuyi, was reportedly declared missing before his “abductors” began contacting relatives to demand ransom. A police source said a concerned citizen reported the case to the Special Anti Kidnapping Squad after receiving information that Tobi had been taken by suspected kidnappers. As investigations progressed, officers uncovered evidence suggesting the kidnap was faked in collusion with his friends. According to the Ondo State Police Command, preliminary findings showed that Tobi conspired with two accomplices, Jubril Abu, 20, and Segun Oluwatuyi, 21, to stage the abduction. Under Siege: 2,496 Students Abducted in 92 School Attacks Since Chibok

New data reveals 2,496 students abducted in 92 school attacks across Nigeria since the Chibok tragedy in 2014. Analysis shows nearly 70 attacks on schools from 2014–2022, with over 1,680 students taken by the end of that period. An additional 22 attacks and 816 students kidnapped occurred from January 2023 to November 2025. Most incidents are concentrated in the North, especially in states like Kaduna, Zamfara, Niger, and Kebbi. Experts warn many cases go unreported, so actual abduction numbers could be higher. The Chibok abduction marked a turning point—many girls are still missing, and mass abductions have since escalated with recurring ransom demands. More than one million […]

They operate from thick forests where they have settled for nearly 30 years. Recent attacks have been brutal. In the latest incident in Oke-Ode, at least 11 forest guards and a community leader were killed. The state government has disputed claims that vigilantes were disarmed before the attack. A former state NLC chairman, Emmanuel Ayeoribe, confirmed the new ransom demands, stating, "Today, aside the millions they demand, they have added drinks, foods, etc to their list." This has placed immense financial pressure on families. In response, the state government has […]
