Navy Reaffirms Commitment to National Security, Seeks Citizens’ Support
The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Idi Abbas, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to protecting the nation across all geopolitical zones. Speaking at the Navy’s fourth-quarter route march in Abuja, Abbas (represented by Rear Adm. Jonathan Mamman) urged citizens to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information. Abbas praised naval personnel for their dedication and stressed that health and physical fitness underpin a robust national defence. He stated that the Navy is actively involved in counterterrorism and internal security operations, partnering with the Army, Air Force, DSS, police, and other agencies nationwide. He emphasized that security is not solely the responsibility of military and police, calling on locals to aid recent security gains by sharing intelligence. Ongoing operations are tri-service and defence-led, with the Navy present in the north-east, north-west, south-south, and south-east—wherever threats arise.
