Asunafo North Alarmed Over Youth Gun Possession
Assembly members in the Asunafo North Municipality of the Ahafo Region have expressed deep concern over the growing trend of open firearm possession, particularly among the youth. Speaking after the municipality’s first general assembly meeting in Goaso, Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Joseph Akparibo described the situation—largely involving unlicensed weapons—as a serious threat to public safety. “We are seeing more young people openly carrying firearms, and it is creating unrest in the community,” Mr. Akparibo said. “If no radical action is taken, nobody can predict what will happen next.” He revealed that municipal authorities are working closely with the Ghana Police Service and planning unannounced operations to apprehend offenders and seize illegal firearms.
