FG Declares Sept 5 Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Friday, September 5, 2025, a public holiday to mark Eid-ul-Mawlid, the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). The announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani. Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to the Muslim community in Nigeria and across the world, urging the faithful to reflect on the Prophet’s virtues of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion. November 8, 2024, Not a Public Holiday Despite Farmers’ Day Celebration.

The Ministry of Interior has clarified that Friday, November 8, 2024, will not be a public holiday, even though it marks the 40th Farmers' Day celebration in Ghana. Traditionally held on the first Friday of December, Farmers' Day was moved to November 8 this year to avoid a clash with the upcoming general elections. However, December 6 will still be observed as a statutory holiday in accordance with Ghanaian law.The Ministry's announcement aims to address any public confusion regarding the holiday status of November 8, reinforcing that the date shift does not extend to making it a day off.
