Reps panel moves to cut budget funds for 22 defaulting agencies

The House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts has asked that 22 federal ministries, departments and agencies be removed from the 2026 budget over alleged refusal to account for public funds. Chairman Bamidele Salam said the affected institutions repeatedly ignored audit queries and legislative summons covering the 2020, 2021 and 2022 financial years.​ Agencies named include the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, Federal Housing Authority, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, National Insurance Commission, National Business and Technical Examinations Board and the Corporate Affairs Commission. Ghana’s PAC urges EPA to shut down petrol and gas stations in residential areas over safety concerns

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Ghana’s Parliament has called on the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to take decisive action against individuals and companies operating petrol and gas stations within residential communities. The Committee warned that these practices pose severe safety hazards and could have catastrophic consequences in the event of a fire or explosion. During a recent committee session, Acting Chair Samuel Atta Mills described the situation as both “alarming and unacceptable,” urging the EPA to strengthen enforcement and protect lives and property. “The dangers in siting petrol and gas stations within residential communities are real and deadly in times of emergencies. PAC Orders Immediate Return of Misappropriated Mattresses at Sefwi Wiawso Secondary.

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has instructed that school mattresses, which were improperly taken by teachers and students from Senior High Schools (SHS) across Ghana, be immediately returned. This directive follows concerning findings in the Auditor-General's report on Pre-University Educational Institutions for the 2023 fiscal year.During a PAC meeting held in Sunyani, Sefwi Wiawso Secondary Technical School was highlighted as a major violator, with 25 individuals, including both staff and students, accused of removing mattresses without authorization.
