National grid fails again, second system disturbance in 5 days

Nigeria’s national electricity grid failed again on Tuesday morning around 11am, throwing many homes and businesses into darkness in what is the second nationwide outage in five days. Data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO), a unit of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), showed total generation from just two GENCOs at about 219 megawatts at the time of the disturbance.​ Head of Communications at NISO, Mr Kazah Akau, downplayed the incident, saying it was “not actually a collapse but a little disturbance” and promised that an official statement would be issued. Power minister promises quick restoration of electricity supply

Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu has assured Nigerians that electricity supply will be rapidly restored after a sharp nationwide drop in power in recent days. Nigeria was plunged into another nationwide blackout on Wednesday following the collapse of the national electricity grid. The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) confirmed the incident in a public notice shared via its X handle on September 10, 2025. “Please be informed that the power outage currently being experienced is due to a loss of supply from the national grid at 11:23 am today, affecting electricity supply across our franchise areas,” AEDC stated.
