Russian strike leaves 1,700 Kyiv buildings without heating – mayor
About 1,700 apartment blocks and public buildings in Kyiv remain without heating two days after a major Russian missile strike hit the Ukrainian capital’s energy system, Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said. The attack on Thursday damaged critical infrastructure and left hundreds of thousands temporarily without heat in the middle of winter. Speaking on Saturday, Klitschko said city authorities had restored supply to a large part of Kyiv, but roughly 30 percent of buildings connected to the central heating network were still offline. Emergency teams are working around the clock to repair boiler houses and pipelines, with priority given to hospitals, schools and homes. Ukraine’s national grid operator Ukrenergo said power cuts and rolling outages continue in several regions after the latest wave of strikes on energy facilities.
