Soludo Raises Concern Over Vote Buying in Anambra Election

Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has decried incidents of vote buying during the ongoing governorship election, especially in Nnewi South Local Government Area. Soludo spoke to reporters after voting at his polling unit in Aguata, noting that while the election was generally peaceful and well-organized, there were serious concerns about voter inducement. He said the only major issue so far has been reports that some voters in Nnewi South were paid as much as N15,000 to sway their votes. Soludo expressed disappointment over the unethical behavior, warning that it can undermine the credibility of the electoral process. The governor, however, praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for managing a smooth election and applauded residents for their orderly conduct at polling stations. He encouraged voters to remain vigilant as the vote collation process continued and said he was optimistic […]

Trump Rules Out War With Venezuela but Says Maduro’s Time Is Up

Former US President Donald Trump has dismissed the possibility of a war with Venezuela but said that the country’s leader, Nicolas Maduro, will not remain in power for long. Speaking in a CBS “60 Minutes” interview aired on Sunday, Trump said he did not believe the United States was preparing for war against Venezuela, even as Washington increases its military presence in the Caribbean. “I doubt it. I don’t think so,” Trump said when asked about the prospect of US military intervention. However, when pressed on whether Maduro’s days as president were numbered, Trump replied, “I would say yeah. I think so, yeah.” The comments come amid growing tension between Washington and Caracas. The US has recently conducted multiple air and sea strikes on what it described as drug-trafficking vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific, reportedly killing at least 65 […]

Deeper Life Church Denies Kumuyi Made Anti-US or Genocide Comments

The Deeper Christian Life Ministry has dismissed as false a viral online report claiming that its General Superintendent, Pastor William Kumuyi, accused the United States of plotting to seize Nigeria’s natural resources and denied the occurrence of Christian genocide in the country. The false story, first published by an online platform called Ibom Focus, spread widely on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday, sparking public criticism and confusion. The publication alleged that Pastor Kumuyi made the remarks during a press briefing in Lagos. In a statement issued on Monday via Pastor Kumuyi’s verified X handle, the church described the report as a complete fabrication. “The Deeper Christian Life Ministry condemns in the strongest terms the malicious and entirely false news report circulated by a faceless platform called ‘Ibomfocus,’” the statement read. “The story titled ‘America is Trying to Steal our Natural […]

Natasha Clarifies Invitation to Akpabio as Protocol

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has clarified that her official invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other senators was a standard procedural courtesy, not a personal or political gesture. The invitation was for colleagues to attend the inauguration of constituency projects marking her second anniversary in the Senate. After the letter was read during plenary, some interpretations suggested it was an "olive branch" amidst their known political differences. The Senator expressed displeasure at this interpretation on her social media handles. She stated that the announcement was a routine protocol and not a sign of reconciliation. "Announcement by protocol don turn to 'Olive Branch, Reconciliation'," she wrote, adding that failing to invite the institution would have also been criticized. She explained that she followed customary practice by writing to the Senate through the presiding officer. She emphasized that despite ongoing court cases, […]

Tanzania Votes as President Samia Suluhu Hassan Heads for Easy Re-Election

Voters across Tanzania are heading to the polls on Wednesday to elect a new president, parliament, and local councillors. But despite the appearance of a competitive race, few doubt the outcome: President Samia Suluhu Hassan is expected to win comfortably, extending the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) party’s six-decade hold on power. The CCM—known as the Party of the Revolution—has governed Tanzania uninterrupted for 64 years. And while multiple candidates are listed on the ballot, analysts and rights groups say the field has been heavily tilted in favor of the incumbent. “This election is more of a coronation than a contest,” said political analyst Joseph Mwaipopo. “The opposition has been systematically weakened, leaving voters with little real choice.” Opposition Silenced Before the Vote Human rights organizations have reported widespread intimidation of opposition figures, activists, and journalists ahead of the election. United States: Wave of Firings Targets Black Leaders in Key Federal Institutions

A series of high-profile dismissals in early 2025 has sparked widespread concern over declining diversity and representation in top U.S. government roles. The new administration, shortly after its inauguration in January, initiated sweeping changes that saw several prominent Black leaders removed from critical federal agencies and institutions. Among the earliest was Gwen Wilcox, the first Black woman to chair the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), who was dismissed and replaced by Marvin E. Kaplan, a Republican appointee. The decision marked a sharp political and ideological shift in labor policy direction. In February, General C.Q. Brown Jr., the second Black Joint Chiefs of Staff in U.S. history, was also removed from office. He was replaced by retired Air Force Lieutenant General Dan Kaine, who lacked prior four-star general experience. To qualify for the role, Kaine received a presidential waiver and an […]

Ivorians Vote Amid Tensions Over President Ouattara’s Fourth-Term Bid

Ivorians will head to the polls on Saturday, October 25, for a tense presidential election marked by anger and controversy over incumbent President Alassane Ouattara’s decision to seek a fourth consecutive term. Under the Ivorian constitution, a president is limited to two terms. However, Ouattara insists that the 2016 constitutional revision “reset” his term count, allowing him to run again. The move has ignited widespread criticism and rekindled fears of political instability in the West African nation. Ivory Coast, the world’s top cocoa and cashew nut producer, stands as a key economic hub in the region and West Africa’s second-largest economy. The country of 32 million, located between Ghana and Liberia, is rich in rainforests and coastal beauty. Nearly a quarter of the population resides in the commercial capital, Abidjan, while the official administrative capital is Yamoussoukro. French remains the […]
