US Protests Grow After ICE Shooting in Minneapolis
Protests erupted for a second consecutive night in Minneapolis and several other major US cities following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. Demonstrations also spread to Houston, Cincinnati, Washington DC and Philadelphia, with many protesters demanding the abolition of ICE. In Minneapolis, mourners gathered near the site where Good’s vehicle crashed after she was shot, leaving flowers and candles only a short distance from where George Floyd was killed in 2020. That earlier tragedy had triggered nationwide demonstrations and remains a powerful symbol in the city’s collective memory. Tensions were also high in Portland, Oregon, where two people were wounded during a separate incident involving federal border patrol agents.
