Nigeria is poor because we celebrate thieves – Obi
Former Anambra State governor Peter Obi says Nigeria remains poor because the country celebrates corrupt people instead of holding them accountable. He argued that Nigeria is not truly a poor nation but has been made poor by years of bad leadership and a culture that rewards those who steal public funds. Obi said that in many cases, people who have looted public resources are honoured with chieftaincy titles, front row seats at public events and loud celebrations, instead of being questioned about the source of their wealth. He compared Nigeria with other countries where citizens resist bad governance, stressing that Nigerians often sing, dance and praise leaders who have failed them, even when millions are living in hardship.
