Atiku won’t step down for Obi in 2027, says Dele Momodu

Dele Momodu has dismissed speculation that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar will step aside for Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential race.​He said Atiku has no reason to drop his ambition and will not withdraw in favour of Obi or any other contender.​ Atiku, the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, joined the African Democratic Congress in November 2025 in what is seen as a move to secure the party’s 2027 presidential ticket.​Obi, who finished third in 2023, also defected from the Labour Party to the ADC last week, fuelling talk of an opposition alliance against President Bola Tinubu.​ There have been rumours of a deal in which Atiku would back Obi for a single four year term, after which power would be handed back to him in 2031.​Momodu rejected this, insisting there is no such agreement and stressing that Atiku remains […]
