Police arrest 50 protesters after Ekpoma anti kidnap rally

Police have arrested about 50 people in Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State, after a protest over rising kidnapping turned violent. The demonstration, which began on Saturday as a peaceful march against insecurity, later saw bonfires and the blocking of major roads, including the Benin Abuja highway.​ The Edo State Police Command said hoodlums hijacked the protest and were involved in looting, vandalising shops and attacking traders. A police statement added that extra tactical teams were deployed to restore order and prevent further damage.​ During the unrest, a soldier allegedly shot and injured a 32 year old man, identified as Osagie Abraham, who is now receiving treatment at Eromoele Medical Centre, Ekpoma.
